Why AfterLoss exists
After a death, families are often asked to make arrangements, find documents, contact institutions, protect property, understand authority, inventory assets and debts, track benefits, manage deadlines, and communicate with professionals while grieving. AfterLoss turns that scattered work into one organized case.
What this version is
This Cloudflare Pages build is a zero-configuration browser application. It stores case information locally in the user’s browser, can work offline after first load, and can create password-encrypted backups and printable case reports.
What it is not
AfterLoss is not a law firm, accounting firm, funeral home, fiduciary, financial adviser, medical provider, court, government agency, or substitute for case-specific professional advice. The workspace is designed to help a user prepare better questions and maintain better records.
Design principles
- Show urgent work before lower-priority administration.
- Allow “I don’t know” instead of forcing guesses.
- Prefer primary government sources when rules matter.
- Minimize unnecessary collection of sensitive data.
- Never pretend a static feature is a secure cloud service or real-time collaboration system.
